The Cheshire and Merseyside (County Boundaries) Order 1992

Made 18th August 1992

Laid before Parliament 25th August 1992

The Secretary of State, in exercise of his powers under sections 51(2) and 67(4) of the Local Government Act 19721and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, hereby makes the following Order which gives effect to proposals submitted to him under sections 47, 48(1) and 51(1) of that Act, more than six weeks before the making of this Order, by the Local Government Boundary Commission for England:

S-1 Citation and commencement

Citation and commencement

1.—(1) This Order may be cited as the Cheshire and Merseyside (County Boundaries) Order 1992.

(2) This Order shall come into force on 15th September 1992 for any purpose set out in regulation 4(1) of the Local Government Area Changes Regulations 19762.

(3) For all other purposes, this Order shall come into force on 1st April 1993.

S-2 Interpretation

Interpretation

2. In this Order—

“Cheshire” means the county of Cheshire,

and “Ellesmere Port” means the borough of Ellesmere Port and Neston in that county;

“electoral division” means an electoral division of Cheshire;

“the map” means one of the 3 maps prepared by the Department of the Environment, marked “Maps of the Cheshire and Merseyside (County Boundaries) Order 1992”, and deposited in accordance with regulation 5 of the Local Government Area Changes Regulations 1976;

“Merseyside” means the metropolitan county of Merseyside, and

“Wirral” means the metropolitan borough of Wirral in that county; and

“ward” means a ward of the borough or metropolitan borough from or to which an area is transferred.

S-3 Transfers from Cheshire (Ellesmere Port) to Merseyside (Wirral)

3. Each area which is marked as shown in column 1 of the following Table on the map indicated in column 2 shall be transferred from Cheshire, from Ellesmere Port, and from the ward named in column 3 to—

(a) Merseyside;

(b) Wirral;

(c) the ward mentioned in column 4; and to

(d) the Wirral Borough petty sessional division and the Wirral coroner’s district.

4. Each area which is marked as shown in column 1 of the following Table on the map indicated in column 2 shall be transferred from Merseyside, from Wirral,and from the ward named in column 3 to—

(a) Cheshire;

(b) Ellesmere Port;

(c) the ward and the electoral division mentioned in column 4; and to

(d) the Ellesmere Port and Neston petty sessional division and the Cheshire coroner’s district.
