The Child Benefit Act 1975 (Commencement No. 2) Order 1976

The Secretary of State for Social Services, in exercise of the powers conferred upon him by sections 21(1) and (2)(a) and 24(1) of the Child Benefit Act 1975(a) and all other powers enabling him in that behalf, hereby makes the following order:—

Citation, commencement and interpretation

1. This order, which may be cited as the Child Benefit Act 1975 (Commencement No. 2) Order 1976, shall come into operation on 4th April 1977; and in this order "the Act" means the Child Benefit Act 1975.

The appointed day for the purposes of the Act

2. The appointed day for the purposes of the Act is Monday 4th April 1977.

Date on which amendments of enactments mentioned in Schedule 4 and repeals of enactments mentioned or to be regarded as mentioned in Part I of Schedule 5 to the Act are to take effect

3. Monday 4th April 1977 shall be the day with effect from which—

(a) the enactments mentioned in Schedule 4 to the Act (enactments amended in consequence of the introduction of child benefit) shall be amended in accordance with that Schedule;

(b) the enactments mentioned in Part I of Schedule 5 to the Act (enactments repealed in consequence of the introduction of child benefit) shall be repealed to the extent mentioned in the third column of the said Part I; and

(c) subsections (1) to (3) of section 2 of the Education (School-leaving Dates) Act 1976(b) (subsections which under section 3(4) of the said Act of 1976 are to be regarded as included in the said Part I) shall be repealed.
