The Civil Aviation (Designation of Aerodromes) Order 1981

The Secretary of State, in exercise of his powers under section 29B of the Civil Aviation Act 1971(a) and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, hereby orders as follows:—

1. This Order may be cited as the Civil Aviation (Designation of Aerodromes) Order 1981 and shall come into operation on 1st June 1981.

2. The following aerodromes are hereby designated for the purposes of section 29 of the Civil Aviation Act 1971(b)—

Heathrow Airport - London

Gatwick Airport - London

Stansted Airport - London

3. The following aerodromes are hereby designated for the purposes of section 29A of the Civil Aviation Act 1971(c)—

Heathrow Airport - London

Gatwick Airport - London

4. The Civil Aviation (Designation of Aerodromes) Order 1971(d) is hereby revoked.

(b) As amended by section 14(1) of and paragraphs 6(4) to (7) and 11(4) of Schedule 1 to the Civil Aviation Act 1978 (c.8), by section 14(2) and Schedule 2 to that Act and by sections 16(2) and 28 of and Part II of Schedule 3 to the Civil Aviation Act 1980.

(c) Section 29A was added by section 25(1) of and Schedule 5 to the Airports Authority Act 1975 (c.78) and amended by section 14(1) of and paragraph 6(8) of Schedule 1 to the Civil Aviation Act 1978 and sections 16(2) and 28 of and Part II of Schedule 3 to the Civil Aviation Act 1980.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This Note is not part of the Order.)

Section 29B of the Civil Aviation Act 1971 (added by section 16(1) of the Civil Aviation Act 1980) empowers the Secretary of State to designate any aerodrome for either or both the purposes of section 29 (which provides for the regulation of noise and vibration from aircraft) and the purposes of section 29A (which provides for the making of grants towards the cost of insulating buildings against noise) of the Act.

This Order supersedes the Civil Aviation (Designation of Aerodromes) Order 1971 with a modification. That Order designated, under a provision now repealed by the Act of 1980, the three airports mentioned in Article 2 of the Order and Prestwick Airport for the purposes of section 29 of the Act of 1971.
