The Civil Courts (Amendment No. 3) Order 1994

he Lord Chancellor, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 99(1) of the Supreme Court Act 19811, sections 2(1) and 26 of the County Courts Act 19842and by sections 117(4) and 374 of the Insolvency Act 19863, hereby makes the following Order:—
1. This Order may be cited as the Civil Courts (Amendment No. 3) Order 1994 and shall come into force on 2nd November 1994.
2. In this Order, “the 1983 Order” means the Civil Courts Order 19834, and a reference to a Schedule by number means the Schedule so numbered in that Order.
3. The 1983 Order shall be amended as follows—
(a) in Schedule 1 the entry relating to Stockton on Tees shall be deleted; and
(b) in Schedule 3—
(i) the entry relating to Stockton-on-Tees shall be deleted5;
(ii) in the third column of the entry relating to Bishop Auckland, for “Stockton-on-Tees” there shall be substituted “Middlesborough”;
(iii) in the third column of the entry relating to Darlington, for “Stockton-on-Tees” there shall be substituted “Middlesborough”; and
(iv) in the fourth column of the entry relating to Hartlepool, for “Stockton-on-Tees” there shall be substituted “Middlesborough”.

This Order amends the Civil Courts Order 1983 so as to close the district registry of the High Court and the county court at Stockton-on-Tees. The Order also attaches the districts of the Bishop Auckland and Darlington County Courts to the Middlesborough County Court for the purposes of admiralty jurisdiction and assigns the district of the Hartlepool County Court to the Middlesborough County Court for the purposes of insolvency jurisdiction.
