Anno Regin ANN Regin decimo. An Act for the reviving and continuing several Acts therein mentioned, for the preventing Mischiefs which may happen by Fire; for building and repairing County Gaols; for exempting Apothecaries from serving Parish and Ward Offices, and serving upon Juries; and relating to the returning of Jurors.

'W H E R E A S divers Temporary Laws, which by Experience have been found Useful and Beneficial, are expired and near expiring, therefore for reviving and continuing the same,' Be it enacted by the Queen's most Excellent Majesty, by and with the Advice and Consent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this present Parliament assembled, and by the Authority of the same, That the Clauseherein after mentioned in the Act made in the sixth Year of her present Majesty's Reign, intituled,An Act for the better preventing Mischiefs that may happen by Fire, videlicet ; And be it further enacted by the Authority aforesaid, That no Action, Suit, or Process whatsoever, shall be had, maintained, or prosecuted against any Person in whose House or Chamber any Fire shall, from and after the said first Day of May , accidentally begin, or any Recompence be made by such Person for any Damage suffered or occasioned thereby; any Law, Usage, or Custom to the contrary notwithstanding; and if any Action shall be brought for any thing done in pursuance of this Act, the Defendant may plead the General Issue, and give this Act in Evidence; and in case the Plaintiff become nonsuit, or discontinue his Action or Suit, or if a Verdict pass against him, the Defendant shall recover treble Cost: Which Clause being made temporary, and being expired, shall be, and are hereby revived and made perpetual.

And be it further enacted by the Authority aforesaid, That the Act made in the eleventh and twelfth Years of the Reign of his late Majesty King William the Third, intituled,An Act to enable Justices of the Peace to build and repair Gaols in their respective Counties , which was to continue for ten Years, being expired, shall be and is hereby revived and continued, and shall be in Force, from the first Day of May one thousand seven hundred and twelve, for and during the Space of seven Years, and from thence to the...
