The Corn Returns Act 1882 (Amendment of Units) Order 1972

The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 17(2) of the Agriculture (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1972(a), and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, hereby makes the following order:—

Citation and commencement

1. This order may be cited as the Corn Returns Act 1882 (Amendment of Units) Order 1972, and shall come into operation on 1st September 1972.

Amendment of Corn Returns Act 1882

2.—(1) Sections 8 and 9(6) of the Corn Returns Act 1882(b) (which respectively require that computations of corn in returns under that Act shall be in hundredweights and that the annual and septennial average price published in pursuance of that Act shall be for a hundredweight of corn) shall have effect as respects England and Wales as if for any reference to the hundredweight of one hundred and twelve imperial standard pounds there were substituted a reference to the ton of two thousand two hundred and forty imperial standard pounds.

(2) In applying section 9(4) of the said Act (which provides the method of calculating weekly, quarterly and yearly average prices for British corn) to the ascertainment of the quarterly average price for the quarter ending on 29th September 1972, and to the ascertainment of the yearly average price for the year ending 25th December 1972, any weekly average price originally computed with reference to the hundredweight of one hundred and twelve imperial standard pounds shall be recalculated with reference to the ton of two thousand two hundred and forty imperial standard pounds.

(3) In applying section 9(5) of the said Act (which provides the method of calculating septennial average prices) to the ascertainment of the septennial average price for any period of seven years ending on or after 25th December 1972, any yearly average price originally computed with reference to the hundredweight of one hundred and twelve imperial standard pounds shall be recalculated with reference to the ton of two thousand two hundred and forty imperial standard pounds.
