Abstract
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to outline what high-performing organization sdo t o achieve
success. In today’s data-driven world, it is easy to get lost in the weed s and not achieve the results
you desire. High-performing organizations have figured out how to create focus and leverage
resources to achieve outsized results. The paper delves int o organizations undergoing
transformations and highlightswhat sets apart those that were successful from those that were not.
Design/methodology/approach This paper is designed as a viewpoint paper that draws on
observations made by the author. Case studies are used to demonstrate the findings and the actions
taken thatwere either successful or not.
Findings High-performing organizations create focus and leverage resources. The most
successful examples have undergone a holistic transformation that was supported by technology.
Originality/value This paper will provide a roadmap to leaders who want to transform their business into
a high-performing organization.

Have you ever wondered what sets high-performing organizations apart from
others? It can be boiled down to two words: focus and leverage. Top
performing organizations are able to communicate clearly what they are
about, along with their goals for the near term and long term. They create a clear
focus. At the same time, they deploy resources – people, technology and assets – in a
manner that allows them to achieve optimal results. They create leverage.
While this issue is focused on digital transformations, it is worth noting that a holistic
transformation is necessary to achieving lasting results. In this article, we will look at
specific examples of what top companies do to propel their business to new heights,
while providing a few examples that did not go well.
In each of these cases, the organization was going through a transformation. Those that took a
holistic approach and leveraged their resources achieved outsized results. The cherry-picked
areas of focus never fully realized their transformational goals.
High-performing organizations create focus
Leaders of high-performing companies focus their organizations on accomplishing their goals.
They constantly innovate, are agile and keep their eyes on cash. They have a laser-like fo cus.
Having clear goals and supporting key performance indicators is foundational for
achieving desired results
Clear goals are necessary to achievegrowth objectives. To support progress against goals,
key performance indicators (KPIs) need to be identified and tracked. These are the drivers
