THE
LITTER ACT, 1958
THIS Act came into force on
7th
August, 1958, and makes it
an offence for any person without authority to leave any
litter which he has thrown down, dropped or otherwise
deposited in, into or from any place in the open air to which
the
public are entitled or permitted to have access without pay-
ment. Any covered place open to
the
air on at least one side
and
available for public use is to be treated as being a place
in
the
open air.
The
maximum penalty is
£10.
Any person
may prosecute
but
specific power to do so is given to local
authorities.
THE
FIRST OFFENDERS ACT, 1958
The
effect of this Act, which came into force on
the
7th
August, 1958, is to impose restrictions on
the
imprisonment
of first offenders who have attained twenty-one years of age
similar to those imposed on
the
imprisonment of persons
under
that
age.
The
Act does not apply to imprisonment for
the
non-payment of a fine, costs, damages or compensation
and
neither does it apply to the non-payment of maintenance or
other money.

THE
TRADING REPRESENTATIONS (DISABLED PERSONS) ACT, 1958
This
Act makes provisionfor the sellers of goods advertised
as made by, or sold for the benefit of, blind or otherwise dis-
abled persons, to be registered by the Minister of Labour
and
National Service.
The
selling, etc., by an unregistered
person of goods so advertised is a summary offence in respect
of which a local authority may prosecute.
There
is provision
for exemption from registration in certain cases.
