Few
things
have
been
so
salutary
for
the discipline
of
international
relations
(IR)
as
the
rejection
by
an
increasing
number
of
scholars
of
the
notion
that
international
relations
theory
and
social
and
political
theory
are
separate
and
distinct.
Unfortunately,
many
of
the
insights
made
possible
by
relating
international
relations
theory
to
debates
in
social
and
political
theory
have
gone
unappreciated
by
the
disciplinary
mainstream.
A
good
part of
the explanation
for
this
lies
in
the
fact
that
few
students
of
international
politics
have a
firm
grounding
in
social
and
political
theory.
Accordingly,
what
is
needed
are
works
which
do
more
than
demonstrate
the
critical
potential
inherent
in
linking
an
analysis
of
world politics
to
larger
currents
in
social
and
political
thought;
they
must
do
so
in
an
accessible
manner.
