Abstract
Purposed Virtual medical instrumentation plays a vital role in a telemedicinesystem that obtains data
from the medical instrument, required by doctors at remote location to diagnosea patient. In recent years, the
analysis of skin quality by telemedicine system has become an emerging trend. To allow the skin to
complement the beauty products and achieve better improvement results, the purpose of this study is to
provide advice on a system that can objectively evaluate the conditionof the skin of the face and to match
appropriatebeauty and cosmetic products.
Design/methodology/approach A novel customer-oriented medical system is proposed for the
applications of telemedicine inthis study, whose aim is to improve information transfer quality and rate to
further enhancethe communication between medical staffsand patients in the telemedicine. More specically,
facial skin will be recordedwith digital images, and skin detection will be performed usingimage processing
technologyto facilitate doctors to provide medical treatmentfor the patients at far end.
Findings The roughness, frecklesand acne indicators were evaluated after obtaining skinimages. These
three indicators were used as input to the system, and skin scores were then calculated to evaluate skin
conditionsto further provide more matching skin care.
Originality/value This can improve the healthproblems that have occurred and can also record the skin
conditionfor each test. Experimental results suggest that it is suitablefor the applications of telemedicine.

1. Introduction
Telemedicine refers to the application of medical data and information which is transferred
from one location to another over a communication medium, and it aims to provide expert-
based medical care to any place where health care is needed (Abo-Zahhad et al.,2014). A
telemedicine system refers to a system that integrates software and hardware to form a
usable medical device on a computer. It provides a user-friendly interface and extensive
tools to interface, model, process, and display virtually any instrument (Pol and Deshpande,
2016). Since the beginningof medical tele-technology and telemedicine systems, the uses and
processing of tele-data,information, and features have been limited to some well-understood
external digital equipment, such as servers and personal computers. Currently,
