THE DISEASES OF ANIMALS (DISINFECTION) ORDER OF 1936. DATED FEBRUARY 28, 1936.

The Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, by virtue and in exercise of the powers vested in him under the Diseases of Animals Acts, 1894 to 1935, and of every other power enabling him in this behalf, hereby orders as follows:—

Interpretation.

1. In this Order, unless the context otherwise requires:—

"The Act of 1894" means the Diseases of Animals Act, 1894;

"The Minister" means the Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries and "the Ministry" has a corresponding meaning;

"Persons" includes a body corporate;

Other terms have the same meaning as in the Act of 1894.

Prescribed use of Approved Disinfectants.

2.—(1) Where the use of a disinfectant or an approved disinfectant is required in accordance with the provisions of any Order of the Minister made under the Diseases of Animals Acts, 1894 to 1935, or with any Regulation of a Local Authority thereunder, the disinfectant to be used shall, unless otherwise expressly stated in any order or Regulation made after the date of this Order, be an "approved disinfectant" as defined in this Order diluted in the manner approved by the Minister in respect of that disinfectant.

(2) The provisions referred to in the Schedule hereto which relate to the use for purposes of disinfection of limewash or of a particular disinfectant, or of one of several disinfectants, shall have effect as if, for the requirements of the use of limewash, or disinfectant, or disinfectants specified or described in such provisions, there were substituted a requirement of the use of an "approved disinfectant" as defined in this Order diluted as described in the foregoing paragraph of this Article.

(3) The expression "approved disinfectant" in this Order means—

(a) standard phenol, or

(b) any disinfectant approved for the time being by the Minister for use for the purpose of this Order,

provided that the container is labelled in accordance with the provisions of Article 3 of this Order.

(4) Whenever standard phenol is used as the approved disinfectant for the purposes of this Order the dilution shall be in the proportion of one part standard phenol to nineteen parts of water.
