An Act for maintaining and improving the Harbour
of Looe in the County of
Cornwall,
and for taking
down the present Bridge between East and West
Looe across the said Harbour, and erecting a new
Bridge instead
thereof.
[30th June 1848.]
HEREAS the Jurisdiction and Management of the Harbour
of Looe is at present, by ancient Charters, vested in the
Mayors and Burgesses of East and West Looe: And
whereas the proper Maintenance and Improvement of the Harbour
of Looe would promote the Trade of the Towns of East Looe and
West Looe\ and of the adjacent Towns and Districts, and would also
be beneficial to the Fisheries; but the said Harbour cannot be effec-
tually maintained and improved unless the same be placed under One
Management: And whereas the present Bridge across the Harbour
is dilapidated and ill built, and interferes with the Improvement of
the said Harbour; and it is expedient that the same should be taken
down, and another Bridge built in lieu
thereof:
And whereas the
Mayors and Burgesses of East and West Looe have from Time
immemorial been accustomed to levy Shore, Harbour, and Anchorage
Dues,
and Quay Dues; and it is expedient that the same should be
abolished,
