Editorial
OCTOBER-DECEMBER 1946
WEare
happy
to be able to announce
an
increase
in
the
size of this
JOURNAL,
beginning
with
the
issue for
JANUARY
1947.
Prior to
the
War
each issue contained 160 pages.
Paper
restrictions reduced
this
figure
to
128 in 1940 and
96
in
1941.
In
1942
the
urgent need of conserving
paper
still more compelled afurther reduction
to
80 pages.
But
although
the
number of
our
pages
thus
became
one half of
the
pre-War figure
the
reading
matter
(by
means of close-setting
and
the
use of a somewhat more
compact type) was reduced
by
only one-quarter. Increas-
ing costs of production soon reached apoint when these
80 pages cost more to produce
than
our pre-War 160.
More
paper
is now available; some of our original
contributors whose juridical services were required by
the
Government are able to
take
up
their
pens in support of
the
JOURNAL
OF
CRIMINAL
LAW
again.
Our
circulation is
increasing. Aconsiderable expansion is
both
possible
and
desirable.
From
January
next
our
pages will number 112.
Without
altering
the
type
we shall
thus
be able
to
furnish
our
subscribers with more reading
matter
than
was con-
tained in
the
pre-War 160. .
Plainly
this
expansion will
not
be possible
at
the
present price of publication. Will our Subscribers therefore
please note
that
the
ANNUAL
SUBSCRIPTION
(which, as
heretofore, will include
the
Annual
Index
and
Volume
Title-page) from 1947 onwards will be Two
GUINEAS.
