With this issue, Political Studies changes hands. From the Nottingham base it has had for
the past 6 years, the journal moves a short distance north to its new team based mostly at
the University of Sheffield. In some ways, this short distance is aptly symbolic of the
approach we will take during the coming years. The journal will remain closely aligned
with its existing mission, and while our plans are ambitious, they are fully consistent with
the traditions that have underpinned the journal throughout its 65-year history. But in
other ways, the short distance the journal has just travelled from Nottingham to Sheffield
implies a limited geographical horizon that belies the scope of our aims and vision. While
Political Studies is the flagship journal of the UK’s Political Studies Association, we are
committed to engaging with scholars well beyond the British Isles.
Before introducing our plans for the following years, we would like to take the oppor-
tunity to thank its outgoing editorial team. Since 2011, Political Studies has been ably
edited by Vivien Lowndes, Cees van der Eijk, Christopher Pierson and Mark Wenman.
We thank them for their service to the profession and for the good state in which they
have left the journal. This team was concurrently responsible for Political Studies Review
(PSR), which has established an independent identity over the years. In recognition
of this independence, PSR will be run by a separate editorial team now based at the
University of Bath. During its time at Nottingham, PSR benefited from the diligent work
