EDITORIAL
Readers of the journal may reca ll that, in issue 13(4), we published an article by t he
rst winner of the Intersentia/ EJSS Prize, Arna ldur Sölvi Kristjá nsson, a researcher
at the Social Resea rch Centre, University of Iceland. His ar ticle, entitled ‘Income
Redistr ibution in Icela nd: Development a nd European C omparisons ’ was based on
the paper he presented at the annua l FISS Conference in 2011 and was judged to be the
best previously unpublished paper presented at that Conference. In this issue of the
journal, we publish an a rticle by one of the two joint winners of the Intersentia/EJSS
Prize for 2012, Wim Van Lancker a researcher at the Herma n Deleeck Centre for Social
Policy, University of Antwerp, Belgium.  e judging panel awarded the pri ze jointly
to Wim Van Lancker for his paper entitled ‘Is a Chi ld-centred Investment Strategy
Bound to Fail? Evidence for the EU27’ and to David de Vaus, Matthew Gray, Lixia
Qu and David Stanton of the Austr alian Inst itute of Family Studies i n Melbourne,
Australia for their pap er entitled ‘ e Economic Consequences of Divorce and
Implications for the Austral ian Social Protect ion System’. However, because of the
journal’s focus on socia l security in Eu rope and the primar y concern of the second
article with so cial protection in Australia, the ed itors decided that it would not really
be appropriate for us to publish the second ar ticle. However, we are sure it will be
published elsewhere and o er ou r congratulations to both sets of prize-wi nners.
e editors would li ke to apologise for the  uct uating contents of the
journal.Alt hough we aim to publish three art icles in each issue, the irregula r  ow of
articles and t he need to meet our publication deadlines me an that we have sometimes
had to go to press with only two ar ticles ready for publication. We are pleased to be
able to make at least part ial amends by publishing four articles i n this issue.
is is sue also includes an erratum note which appea rs below. Due to an oversight
by the editors, the  nal article, ‘A Comparative Analysis of Child Maintenance
Schemes in Five Countries by Ch ristine Ski nner, Mia Hakovirta a nd Jacqueline
Davidson in the Specia l Issue on Child Maintenance Schemes in Five Count ries (Issue
14(4) conta ined a number of errors. We wish to apologise to t he authors and editors
for any confusion that may have arisen as a resu lt of this.
