EDITORIAL
NEW EDITORINCHIEF
Due to the unfortunate passing of Professor Fried van Hoof in May 2014 (and as
announced in the Ed itorial to the June edition), the Netherlands Quarterly of Human
Rights has had to appoint a new Editor-in-Chief. Fried was involved w ith the NQHR
from its very beginning and had been its Editor-in-Chief for several years. His loss
is greatly felt by the Board. To carry on Fried’s work, the NQHR Executive Board
has appointed Dr Antoine Buyse as the Editor-in-Chief from June 2014. Antoine is
an Associate Professor at SIM, Utrecht University, and has been a member of the
Executive Board for several years. He will also be the successor of Professor Jenny
Goldschmidt as director of the Netherlands Institute of Human Rights (SIM), the
Quarterly’s home base, as of September.
NEW EXECUTIVE AND EDITORIAL BOARD MEMBERS
e Executive Board of the Netherlands Quarterly of Human Rights is also pleased to
announce the appointment of Karin Arts to the Executive Board. Karin is Professor
of International Law and Development at the International Institute of Social Studies,
Erasmus University Rotterdam, t he Netherlands. For her complete pro le see www.iss.
nl/arts.Ka rin has ample teaching and research experience in i nternational law, human
rights, children’s rights, EU development cooperation policy and EU-ACP relations.
She has advised governmental and non-governmental organisations in these elds
and has extensive developing country experience. Currently Karin is a member of the
Human Rights Committee ofthe Advisory Council on International A airs, advising
the Dutch Government and Parli ament on human rights in foreign policy. Her current
projects include the KidsRights Index (www.kidsrightsindex.org). We look forward to
collaborating w ith Karin on futu re publications and welcome her to the Executive Boa rd.
e Executive Board is furthermore pleased to announce two new members on its
Editorial Board, which undertakes double-blind peer-reviews of selected articles
submitted to the Quarterly. rough its subject matter expertise and diverse
composition, the Editorial Board guarantees the highest quality publications in the
Quarterly. We warmly welcome to the Editorial Board Rachel Murray and Bas de
Gaay Fortman and t hank them in advance for their vita l contributions:
