Editorial note:
Introducing 'Debate and Dialogue'
The editors of Criminology & Criminal Justice are pleased to announce the
introduction of a new special feature to the content of the Journal termed
‘Debate and Dialogue’. In this new and occasional section of the journal we
will air important, possibly controversial essays and arguments by leading
criminologists, which are intended to provoke further debate and dialogue
in our journal. To this end we are pleased to publish Professor Larry
Sherman’s inaugural lecture as Wolfson Chair in Criminology at Cambridge
University entitled ‘Evidence and Liberty: The Promise of Experimental
Criminology’. In future issues of Criminology & Criminal Justice we plan
to publish responses to Professor Sherman's provocative argument on the
present state and future direction of criminology as an academic discipline.
