EDITORS’ NOTE SMALL RESEARCH GRANT SCHEME
The Editors wish to draw attention to the new scheme
for
small research
grants sponsored by the Scottish Economic Society
At the Society’s Annual General Meeting on 16 March 1983, a proposal
from Council, that the Society allocate a sum of money to make grants
for research and related purposes, in economics, was passed. The details
of the scheme have now been determined and are as follows.
Applications are invited from members of the Society for grants of up to
f500
to assist with research expenses. Requests for grants for other
scholarly purposes, e.g. to cover publication costs, will be entertained,
but in general preference will be given to research applications. There
will be no limitations on the areas
of
research involved, having regard to
the aim of the Society to advance the study of economic problems “on
the widest basis, in accordance with the Scottish tradition of political
economy inspired by Adam Smith”
;
but should selection be necessary,
preference may be given to research on Scottish topics, other things
equal. Application for grants, to run during the year beginning 1
October 1984, should be made by
30
June 1984. Application forms and
further information may be obtained from the Secretary of the Society,
Department of Political Economy, University of Aberdeen, Aberdeen,
AB9
2TY.
