The Secretary of State for Social Services, in conjunction with the Treasury, in exercise of his powers under section 8 of the National Insurance Act 1969(a), hereby makes the following regulations which, by virtue of the provisions of section 10(1)(b) of the said Act of 1969, are exempt from the requirements of section 108 of the National Insurance Act 1965(b) (preliminary draft of regulations under that Act to be submitted to the National Insurance Advisory Committee) and section 62(2) of the National Insurance (Industrial Injuries) Act 1965(c) (proposal to make regulations under that Act to be submitted to the Industrial Injuries Advisory Council):—

PART I

GENERAL

Citation, commencement and interpretation

1.—(1) These regulations may be cited as the Family Allowances, National Insurance, Industrial Injuries and Miscellaneous Provisions (Decimalisation of the Currency) Regulations 1970, and shall come into operation in the case of regulations 1, 13(3)-(6), (8)-(10), 14, 17(1)-(3), 33(2)(5), 34(4)(5) 6th April 1970; in the case of regulations 13(7) and 17(4) the end of the transitional period (see regulation 1(2); and in the case of the remainder of the regulations 15th February 1971.

(2) In these regulations, unless the context otherwise requires—

"the Family Allowances Act" means the Family Allowances Act 1965(a);

"the National Insurance Act" means the National Insurance Act 1965;

"the Industrial Injuries Act" means the National Insurance (Industrial Injuries) Act 1965;

"the 1969 Act" means the National Insurance Act 1969;

"the Old Cases Act" means the Industrial Injuries and Diseases (Old Cases) Act 1967(b);

"the appointed day" means 15th February 1971 (the day appointed under section 1 of the Decimal Currency Act 1967)(c);

"the new currency" means the new currency of the United Kingdom provided for by the Decimal Currency Act 1967;
