The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, the Secretary of State for Scotland and the Secretary of State for Wales, acting jointly, in exercise of the powers conferred by sections 66(1), 74A, 75(1), 76(1), 77(4) and 84 of the Agriculture Act 1970(a) and now vested in them(b) and of all other powers enabling them in that behalf, after consultation in accordance with section 84(1) of the said Act with such persons or organisations as appear to them to represent the interests concerned, hereby make the following regulations:—

Title and commencement

1. These regulations may be cited as the Feeding Stuffs (Sampling and Analysis) (Amendment) Regulations 1984, and shall come into operation on 31st July 1984.

Amendment of the Feeding Stuffs (Sampling and Analysis) Regulations 1982

2. The Feeding Stuffs (Sampling and Analysis) Regulations 1982(c) are hereby amended as provided in regulations 3 and 4 of these regulations.

Use of sampling spear

3. In paragraph 8 of Part II of Schedule 1 (General Instructions for the Taking of Samples), there shall be inserted immediately after the words "shall not be used if" the words "the material is in a package or container containing not more than 50 kg and".

Determination of protein

4. In Schedule 2—

(a) the note immediately following paragraph 6 of method 4 (which provides for the determination of protein) shall be deleted, and

(a) 1970 c. 40; section 74A was inserted by the European Communities Act 1972 (c. 68), Schedule 4, paragraph 6, and the Act was amended by the Agriculture Act 1970 Amendment Regulations 1982 (S.I. 1982/980).

(b) In the case of the Secretary of State for Wales, by virtue of S.I. 1978/272.

(c) S.I. 1982/1144.

(b) paragraph 1 of method 7 (which provides for the determination of ammonia and volatile nitrogenous bases) shall be amended to read:

"This method is to be used for those products listed in Schedule 2 to the Feeding Stuffs Regulations 1982(a) for which a declaration in terms of volatile nitrogenous bases may be given.".
