On 6th October, 1941, G. sustained an injury to his right index finger. He went to a hospital as an extern patient on the day of the accident, and continued to attend the hospital as an extern patient until the 9th October. On that date he was admitted as an intern patient. The finger had by them become septic. At that time he was apparently normal but having great pain with his finger. On the 13th October he was suffering from serious mental derangement. G. was transferred to another hospital where his finger was amputated on 21st of October. The visiting surgeon of that hospital stated that G. showed no signs of mental instability while in the hospital. G. remained in the second hospital until the 15th November, 1941.
