'W H E R E A S it is practicable to make and maintain a Canal for the Navigation of Boats, Barges, and other Vessel, from the presentOxford Canal, in the Parish of Braunston , in the County of Northampton , through, by, or near the Towns of Daventry, Newport Pagnell, Leighton Buzzard, Rickmansworth , and Uxbridge , in the several Counties of Northampton, Buckingham, Bedford, Hertford , and Middlesex , to unite with the River Thames at or near Brentford , in the County of Middlesex , and also certain Collateral Cuts herein-after described, to communicate with the said intended Canal, which said Canal and Collateral Cuts will open a certain Communication for the cheap and easy Conveyance of Goods, Wares, Provisions, and Merchandize, and all heavy Commodities, between the Irish and British Channels, and the Ports of Hull and London , and the several intermediate, populous, and manufacturing Towns and Places through, and by Means of, several Canals already made in this Kingdom, whereby the Intercourse of Trade and Commerce between the several Places aforesaid will be greatly promoted and facilitated, Manufactures encouraged and increased, and the Agriculture of the Country, throughout the Line and Neighbourhood of the said Canal and Collateral Cuts, materially assisted, by being supplied with Lime and other Manure at a moderate Expence, and will tend very much to reduce the Price of Coals throughout the whole Line and Neighbourhood of the said Canal and Cuts, and will be in other Respects of great publick Utility; but the same cannot be effected without the Authority of Parliament:' May it therefore please your Majesty that it may be enacted, &c.

‘Proprietors named, and Power given them to make a Canal, to be calledThe Grand Junction Canal , from the Oxford Canal, in the Parish of Braunston , through Drayton, Daventry, Welton, Thrupp, Long Buckby, Whilton, Norton, Brockhall, Dodford, Weedon Beck, Stowe, Lower Heyford, Bugbrook, Gayton, Blifworth, Stoke Bruern, Road, Grafton Regis, Yardley Gobyon, Furtho , and Cosgrove , in the County of Northampton; Woolverton, Bradwell, Stantonbury, Great Linford, Newport Pagnell, Willen, Little Woolston, Great Woolston, Woughton, Simpson, Fenny Stratford, Water Eaton, Stoke Hammond, Soulbury, Linslade, Grove, Slapton, Horton, Ivinghoe, Pightlesthorn, Cheddington , and Marsworth , in the County of Buckingham ; Leighton Buzzard , in the County of Bedford; Tring, Aldbury, North Church, Great Berkhampstead, Bovingdon, Hemel Hampstead, Abbots Langley, King's Langley, Watford . and Rickmansworth , in the County of Hertford; Denham , in the County of Buckingham ; and Harefield, Uxbridge, Cowley, Hillingdon, Drayton Harlington, Hayes, Southall Heston, Norwood, Hanwell Isleworth , and Ealing , in the County of Middlesex , to unite with the River Thames at the Place where the Eastern Branch of the River Brent is received by the River Thames ; and to make a Collateral Cut to branch from the said intended Canal in the Parish of Daventry , to the North-east End of the Town of Daventry ; and also another Collateral Cut, to branch from the said Canal, in the Parish of Gayton , through Gayton, Rothers Thorpe, Wootton, Harding stone, Duston , and Northampton , to join the present Navigation of the River Nen there; and also another Collateral Cut, to branch from the said...
