An Act
for
coiiferring further powers upon the Great

Western Railway Company in respect
of
their own
undertaking and
upoii
that Company and the London
and North Western Railway Company in respect
of
undertakings in whicli they are jointly interested
for
vesting the undertaking
of
the Golden Valley Railway
Company in the Great Western Railway Conipany and
for
other purposes.

HEREAS it is expedient that the Great Western Railway

Company (in this Act called “the Company”) should be
.empowered to make execute
and
maintain the railways and
deviations
of
railway
and
other works and to exercise the powers

this Act respectively authorised and conferred upon them and
to
acquire for the purposes of this Act and for the general
purposes
of
their undertaking
and
works
connected therewith
and
for providing increased accommodation certain lands houses
and buildings in this Act described
or
referred
to
:
And whereas it is expedient tliat the Company and the London
and
North
Western Railway Company (in this Act called
(‘
the
North
Western Company
”)
should be empowered to execute the works
and
exercise the powers and acquire the lands in this Act mentioned
or referred
to
in that behalf:
And
whereas plans and sections showing the lines ,and levels
of
the railways and otlier works by this Act authorised to be
constructed and plans showing the lands by this Act authorised
to
be acquired and also
bocks
of
reference containing the names
of
the owners aid lessees
or
reputed owners and lessees and
of
the
occupiers
of
those lands were duly deposited with the clerks
of
the
peace
for the several couiities within whicli such railways
and
other
works
will be constructed
and
such lands are siiuated and are herein-

after respectively referred to as the deposited plans sections and
books
of
reference
:
And.
whereas
it
is
expedient that the Company should be
authorised to abandon the construction
of
Railways
Nos.
1
and
2
1898
and
EO
much
of
Railway
No.
2
authorised by the Great
Western Railway (New Works) Act
1898
as will be rendered
unnecessary by the deviations
of
that railwap by this Act
authorised
:
And
whereas an agreement has been entered into for the sale to
and purchase by the Company
of
the undertaking of the Golden
Valley Railway Company and
it
is expedient that the same should he
transferred to and vested in the Company and that the agreement
wit11 reference thereto as set forth in the Third Schedule to this
Act should be confirmed
:
And whereas
it
is expedient that the powers of the Company
herein-after referred
to
to subscribe
to
the undertakings
of
the
Alexandra (Newport) Dock Company and the Waterford and
Central Ireland Railway Company should
so
far
as
such powers
have not been exercised be repealed and the capital powers of the
Company reduced accordingly
:
And whereas
it
is expedient to declare
and
regulate the capital
of
the Company and
to
make such further provision with reference
thereto as
is
contained in this Act:
And whereas
it
is
expedient that some of the provisions
of
existing Acts
of
the Company should be amended or repealed and
that further powers should be conferred upon the Company
as
herein-after provided
:
And whereas it is expedient that the Company should be
authorised to raise an additional sum of money and to apply their
funds
for
the purposes
of
this Act and for the general purposes
of
their undertaking
:
And whereas it is expedient that the North Western Company
should be empowered to apply their funds as provided by this Act
:
And whereas the objects aforesaid cannot be attained without
the authority of Parliament
:
May-it there-fore please Your Majesty that it may be enacted and

the advice and consent
of
the Lords Spiritual and Temporal and
Commons
io this present Parliament assembled and by the authority
of
the
same
as follows

In this Act the several words
and
expressions
to
which

meanings are assigned by the Acts wholly or partially incorporated

thing in the subject

context repugnant to such construction:
The expression
the railways” means the new railways and
deviations
of
railway
by
this Act authorised
;
The expression
the two companies
means the Company and
the North Western Company or whichever
of
those companies
exercises
the
powers by this Act conferred upon the two
companies
;
The expression
‘‘
the Golden Valley Company
means the Golden
Valley .Railway Company
;
The expression
the date
of
vesting
means the 1st day
