Hot potato: this month's dilemma.

I am a member in practice and serve a client by preparing accounting systems, attending board meetings and preparing annual accounts. The client wants an audit and requested me to find a relevant firm. I know of a couple of firms that I feel can do this well. Would it be all right for me to recommend them to my client?

Our response:

With regard to referring companies to your client, you should ensure you feel confident in relation to issues of potential self-interest threats (Section 200), conflict of interest threats (Section 220), and issues of objectivity (Section 280), as well as considering any threat that may arise from any remuneration involved (Section 240.5).

You should consider any issue of liability if you are endorsing another company and, if you have any specific relationship with any individuals within the firms, then this should be declared.
