whereas by the Huddersfield Waterworks Act,
187
1,
(in
this Act called the Water Act
of
1871,)
the liiuits within which
the Corporation werz authorised to
supply
water were extended,
and the Corporation were authorised to construct additional
rcscr-
voirs
and
works, ancl to take certain waters then flowing
into
the
Wessenden Brook,
and
in consideration thereof and
as
compensation
therefor were authorised and required
to
enlarge the Wessenclcn
Reservoir by raising the top water level thereof, and thenceforimrd
to
maintain that reservoir
so
enlarged,

stored might be available
for
the purposes
of
the Wesscnden Act
:
And whereas it is expedient that the Corpration be authorised to
abandon the enlargemcnt
of
the Wesseiiclen Reservoir ancl ~~orks
coiinectetl with such enlargment, and in lieu thereof and in substi-
tution therefor to construct
a
new storage reservoir and
works
connected therewith, and
to
impound in that reservoir the additional
waters intended
to
have been impounded in thc said enlargement
of
the Wessenden Reservoir
:

whereas
it
is
expedient that the Corpration be authorised
to
construct the new communication roads herein-after described, in
order
to
obtain better access to certain
of
their waterworks
:
And whereas by an indenture, dated the first clay
of
April one
thousand eight hundred
and
seventy-five, the undertaking, lands,
and property
of
the Berry Brow Water Supply Company (Limited),
who were supplying water within the borough, were transferred to
the Corporation,
and
it
is
expedient that
as
soon
as
the
debts
ancl
liabilities
(if
any)
of
that company have been paid
and
satisfied,
and their assets distributed, and their affairs
wound
up,

and other parts under the jurisdiction of local boards
:
And whereas by the Huddersfield Improvement Act,
18’71,
(in

this Act called the Improvement Act
of
1871,)
the Huddersfield
Improvement Act,
1848,
wp repealed, and the enactments
in
force
relative
to
the improvement and government
of
the constituent
parts
of
the borough were consolidated, and the property
of
the said
improvement commissioners
and
local
boards were vested in the
Corporation
:
And whereas by the Improvement Act
of
1871
(section two
hundred
and
four)
power was given to the Corporation
on
the one
hand,
and
any
company or persons authorised to supply gas within
the borough
on
the other
hand,
to
enter into and carry into effect
agreements for the purchase by and sale
to
the Corporation
of
the
undertakings, works,
and
property
of
such company or persons, and
it mas by that Act provided that
on
completion
of
any such
purchase the Corporation might have and exercise all the powers
and authorities
of
such company or persons for or relating
to
the
manufacture and supply
of
gas
in
the borough
:
And whereas
a
large portion
of
the borough and certain neigh-
bouring townships
and
places were lighted with gas by the Hudders-
field Gas Company, under the powers
of
1861,
(in
this Act called the Gas Act of
1861,)
and certain other
parts of the borough were lighted with gas by the Mold Grecn Gas-
light Company, Limited, and the respective undertakings, lands,
and property
of
those companies were purchased by and transferred
to the Corporation, such purchase and transfer being effected
in
the
case
of
the Huddersfield Gas Company by an indenture dated the
fifteenth day
of
March one thousand eight hundred and seventy-two,
and
in
the case of the Mold Green Gaslight Company by
an
indenture dated the thirteenth day
of
March one thousand eight
hundred and seventy-four, and the Corporation
arc
now by means
of
those undertakings manufacturing and supplying gas within the
limits
of
the Gas Act
of
1861,
and
it
is expedient that as soon as the
debts and liabilities (if any)
of
those companies respectively have
been paid and satisfied, and their assets clistributecl and their affairs
wound up, those coiapanies be dissolved
:
And whereas the trade and population within and witliout the
borough and the demand
for
gas are greatly increasing,
and
it
is
expedient that the limits within which thc Corporation may supply
gas be extended and that they be authorised
to
extend their exist-
ing
ancl
construct additional
nrorks
on the lands
to
be
acquired for
those purposes under the powers
of
this Act
:
