Introducing the
best of Études
internationales
With this issue, the editors are pleased to introduce what we hope will be a
regular feature of International Journal, the publication in English of the best
article to appear in Études internationales over the course of the past year. For
its part, Études has recently begun to publish in French our annual Cadieux
prize winner, representing the best article to appear over the past year in
International Journal. This year, members of Études’ editorial committee
have selected Kristin Bartenstein’s insightful analysis of the international
legal issues arising from the initiatives of states fronting on the Arctic ocean
to stake out their respective “shares” of the continental shelf—issues that
were placed on the front burner, when the Russians dramatically planted
their f‌lag (in titanium) on the Arctic seabed.
