The Judicial Committee (Jamaica) Order 1992

Made 28th October 1992

Coming into force 29th October 1992

At the Court at Buckingham Palace, the 28th Day of October 1992

Present,

The Queen’s Most Excellent Majesty in Council

Her Majesty, in exercise of the powers conferred on Her by section 1(1) of the Judicial Committee Amendment Act 18951and of all other powers enabling Her in that behalf, is pleased, by and with the advice of Her Privy Council, to order, and it is hereby ordered, as follows:–

S-1 This Order may be cited as the Judicial Committee (Jamaica)...

1. This Order may be cited as the Judicial Committee (Jamaica) Order 1992 and shall come into force on 29th October 1992.

S-2 The Supreme Court of Jamaica is hereby named as a superior...

2. The Supreme Court of Jamaica is hereby named as a superior court for the purposes of the Judicial Committee Amendment Act 1895.

(This note is not part of the Order)

Section 1(1) of the Judicial Committee Amendment Act 1895 provides that, if any person being or having been Chief Justice or a judge of the supreme court or of a superior court of certain of Her Majesty’s Dominions specified in the said Act, or of any other superior court in Her Majesty’s Dominions named in that behalf by Her Majesty in Council, is a member of Her Majesty’s Privy Council, he shall be a member of the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council. This Order names the Supreme Court of Jamaica as a superior court for the purposes of the said Act.
