'WHEREAS the County ofSussex is divided or reputed to be divided for certain Purposes into Two Divisions called respectively the Eastern and Western Divisions, but there is but One Commission of the Peace for the whole County: And whereas the Court of Quarter Sessions for the said County is for Convenience held every Quarter first in one of the said Divisions and then in the other: And whereas the Justices for the said County, meeting in Quarter Sessions in the said Divisions respectively, have been accustomed to make separate County Rates for each Division, and to do and regulate divers other Acts, Matters, and Things for each Division separately, as if in fact each of such Divisions was a separate County: And whereas a separate Basis or Standard for the Assessment of the County Rates has been made for each Division: And whereas Doubts have arisen whether, under the several Statutes regulating the County Rate, and such other Acts, Matters, and Things, or otherwise, each of such Divisions ought to have been treated as a separate County, and whether a separate Basis or Standard for the County Rate ought to have been made as aforesaid: And whereas it is believed that sometimes through Inadvertence the Court of Quarter Sessions in the said County may not have been properly adjourned from Time to Time and from Place to Place:' Be it enacted by the Queen's most Excellent Majesty, by and with the Advice and Consent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this present Parliament assembled, and by the Authority of the same, as follows:

1. The Basis or Standard for the County Rate, and every Rate, Order, Act, Matter, or Thing heretofore made, done, or regulated as aforesaid in respect of either Division of the said County separately by the said Justices sitting as aforesaid in such Division, shall be deemed to have been and shall be as valid as if such Division had been and was a separate County, and such Justices had been and were in fact acting under a separate Commission of the Peace for such Division.
