HEREAS in the Month of October One Thoufand Preamble.
Seven Hundred and Ninety-feven [the Bridge .over ithe
River 'Tweed vtzax-Kelfo was thrown down by ^he JFloo4?,
whereby the'Communication'to and from the Northern #nd Southern.
parts of the County of Roxburgh, as well as the ;n.eighbpyrin^ Cpunties
of Berwick and 'Northumberland, has been greatly impeded, as the

erecting a New Bridge inftead
thereof,
over the faid River, would f

inafter mentioned j as alfo the Sheriff Depute of the County of Rox-
burgh for the Time being, theCommifiioner or Factor for the Duke of
Roxburgh for the Time being, the Commiffioner or Factor for the Duke
of
Buccleuch
for the Time being, the Faclor for the Marquis of
twed-
dale upon his Eftate in Roxburghfhire for the Time being, the Factor
for the Right Honourable Lord Minto for the Time being, the Baillie
of Kelfo for the Time being, and the Prefes of the Town Council or
Stent Mafters of Kelfo for the Time being, though hot poflefled. of
the Qualifications aftermentioned ;

and alfo all and every Perfon or
Perfons who fhall fubfcribe and pay the Sum of Fifty Pounds or up-
wards towards the building and erecting the faid Bridge, fuch Per-
fons who fhall fo fubfcribe and pay being qualified as hereinafter
mentioned, fhall be, and they are hereby nominated and appointed
Truftees for building and erecting the faid Bridge, and for putting
this Act in Execution, by the Ways and Means and in the Manner
hereinafter mentioned.
Truftees in II. And be it further enacted, That fuch of the faid Truftees whoare
the

or maybe in the Commiffion of the: Peace for the faid County of
Peacffmay Roxburgh may neverthelefs act as Juftides of the Peace for the more
adt as fuch. effectually putting in Execution the feveral Matters and Powers in this
.Act mentioned and contained.
Truftees not HI. And be it further enacted, That if any Perfon or Perfons by this
to hold any Act appointed or entitled to be a Trufte:e or Truftees for putting this
Place
of
Pro-
'Act in Execution fhall accept of any Place of Profit arifing out of or
finder c e by reafon of any Pontages or Duties by this Act granted, fuch Perfon
or Perfons fhall from thenceforth, and while they continue to hold
and enjoy fuch Place or Places, be difabled to act as a Trultee or
Truftees.
Meetings of IV. And be it further enacted, That the faid Truftees fhall meet at
Traftces. Kelfo on the Third Tuefday after the paffing of this Aft, or as
foon after as conveniently may be, and they, or any Five or more
of them at fuch Meetings afTembled fhall proceed to the Exe-
cution of this. Act, and may then and afterwards from Time to
Time adjourn to meet at fuch Times and at fuch Places as the faid
Truftees, or any Five or more of them at their laft Meetings afTem-
bled, fhall think proper, without Prejudice to their meeting fooner if
there be Occafion, upon Notice from the Clerk or Clerks of the laft
•Meeting, advertifed Once at leaft in any Newfpaper publifhed a: Kelfo
or Edinbnrgh, and affixed upon the Turnpike Gate at or near to the
faid Bridge, when fuch Gate fhall be erected, Ten Days at leaft
before the Time fixed for fuch Meetings} and in cafe at any Time
appointed for a Meeting of the Truftees Five in Number fhall not
