The Local Authorities (Goods and Services) (Public Bodies) Order 1990

Coming into force 1st April 1990
The Secretary of State for the Environment in exercise of the powers conferred bysection 1(5) and (6) of the Local Authorities (Goods and Services) Act 19701and nowvested in him2and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf and the Secretary ofState for Wales in exercise of the powers conferred on him by those provisions and of allother powers enabling him in that behalf, hereby make the following Order:
Citation and commencement
1. This Order may be cited as the Local Authorities (Goods and Services) (PublicBodies) Order 1990 and shall come into force on 1st April 1990.
Designation of public bodies
2. Each of the following bodies which is a person appearing to the Secretaries ofState to be exercising functions of a public nature shall be a public body for the purposesof the Local Authorities (Goods and Services) Act 1970 in its application to England andWales:
The City Literary Institute;
Medway Housing Society Limited.
Restriction on agreements which may be entered into
3.—(1) Agreements which may be entered into by the Society by virtue of this Ordershall only be for the provision by a local authority to the Society of administrative,professional or technical services in connection with the management or maintenance bythe Society of houses situated on land transferred to the Society by a local authorityunder section 32 of the Housing Act 19853.
(2) In paragraph (1)—
“houses” has the same meaning as in section 56 of the Housing Act 1985; and
“the Society” means Medway Housing Society Limited.

This Order designates the City Literary Institute and the Medway Housing SocietyLimited as public bodies under the Local Authorities (Goods and Services) Act 1970.The effect of the designation is to allow a local authority to provide goods and services tothese bodies. In the case of Medway Housing Society Limited this is limited to theprovision of administrative, professional or technical services in connection with certainhousing.
