The Local Government (Scotland) Act 1973 (Commencement No. 1) Order 1973

In exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 238(2) of the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1973(a), I hereby make the following order:—

1. This order may be cited as the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1973 (Commencement No. 1) Order 1973.

2. Sections 7 (except in subsection (1) the words from "and accordingly" to the end of the subsection), 11 (except subsection (3)), 218, 224 and 233 of, and Schedule 2 to, the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1973 shall come into operation on 12th November 1973.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This Note is not part of the Order.)

This Order brings into operation those provisions of the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1973 which enables the Secretary of State to make rules for the conduct of local government elections (sections 7 and 233), to issue directions in connection with the first elections to the new local authorities (section 11 and Schedule 2), and to set up a Staff Commission (section 218) and Property Commission (section 224) not later than one month after the passing of the Act.
