Cap.
18.
An Act for carrying into effect an Agreement
respecting the Estates of the Corporation of the
Borough of Ludlow, and other Estates vested in
the said Corporation, in trust, either partly or
in whole, for certain charitable Uses ; and for
appropriating certain Estates to the Charity
herein-after mentioned, and declaring the Trusts
thereof;
and for making Provision for Payment
of the Debts of the said Corporation ; and other
Purposes. [27th July 1846.]

HEREAS King Edward the Fourth by His Charter or charter of
Letters Patent, bearing Date on or about the Seventh Day
Edw.

of December One thousand four hundred and sixty-one, dated 7th
gave and granted to the Bailiffs, Burgesses, and Commonalty of '
Ludlow the Town or Borough of Ludlow, and all his Lands, Tene-
ments, Rents, Reversions, and Services in Ludlow aforesaid, (except
the Site of His Castle there, and a certain Meadow called Castle
Mead,) and also all His Lands, Tenements, Services, and Rents in
Stanton Lacy which were accustomed to be in the Charge of the
Bailiffs of Ludlow aforesaid in Times then past, to hold the same
[Private,] 7 fa (except

(except as before excepted) to the aforesaid Burgesses, their Heirs
and Successors, from the Feast of Saint Michael the Archangel then
last past, of the said King and His Heirs, at Fee Farm for ever, at
the Kent of Twenty-four Pounds Thirteen Shillings and Four-pence,
Charter of payable as therein mentioned: And whereas the said King Edward

the Fourth by His Charter or Letters Patent, dated the Seventh Day
dated 7th 0f March One thousand four hundred and seventy-eight, after reciting

four hundred and sixty-one, willed that the said Burgesses, Bailiffs,
and their Successors should not render the aforesaid Fee Farm Rent
of Twenty-four Pounds Thirteen Shillings and Four-pence into the
King's Exchequer, and He thereby, among other things, granted to
the aforesaid Burgesses the Town or Borough aforesaid, and all
Lands, Tenements, Services, Rents, and Revenues, (except as before
excepted,) to hold to them, their Heirs and Successors, in Fee Farm
for ever, at the said yearly Rent of Twenty-four Pounds Thirteen
Shillings and Four-pence, to be paid by equal Portions to the Re-
ceivers or Auditors of the said King for His Lordship of Ludlow, and
Charter of not to the King's Exchequer: And whereas King Edward the Sixth
Edw.

by His Charter or Letters Patent, bearing Date at Westminster on the
Aatril fnthe Twenty-sixth Day of April in the Sixth Year of His Reign, did
6th'Year of give and grant to the said Bailiffs, Burgesses, and Commonalty of the

Reign.
Town or Borough of Ludlow aforesaid all the Site, Place, Circuits,
and Precincts of the late House of the Palmers Guild of the Blessed
Virgin Mary in Ludlow in the County of Salop called the College
House, with the Appurtenances, and all Messuages, Lands, Tene-
ments, and Hereditaments whatsoever, of the same King, with the
Appurtenances, situate, lying, and being in the Towns, Fields, Parishes,
and Hamlets therein mentioned, and elsewhere wheresoever in the
Kingdom of England to the said Guild or Fraternity in any way
belonging or appertaining, or as Parts or Parcels of the Lands,
Possessions, or Revenues of the same late Guild or Fraternity there-
tofore known, taken, used, or reputed, as all and singular the same
came or ought to have come, and then were or ought to be, in the
same King's Hands, to hold the same, with the Appurtenances, to the
aforesaid Bailiffs, Burgesses, and Commonalty, and their Successors
for ever, to be held of the said King Edward the Sixth, His Heirs
and Successors, as of His Castle of Ludlow, by Fealty, at the Rent
of Eight Pounds Thirteen Shillings and Four-pence, payable as
therein mentioned, for all Services; and in the said Letters Patent
now in recital is contained a Declaration, that the said Bailiffs, Bur-
gesses, and Commonalty, of the Issues and Profits of the Premises
should keep, observe, and continue the Grammar School therein-
before mentioned in the aforesaid Town of Ludlow, for the educating,
instituting, learning, and Instruction of Children and Youth in Gram-
mar from thenceforth for ever, and that such School was to be kept
by One Master and One Usher, also that the same Bailiffs, Bur-
gesses, and Commonalty should keep and maintain, with the Issues
and Profits of the said Messuages and other the Premises, with their
Appurtenances, Thirty-three poor indigent Persons within the Town
or Borough of Ludlow aforesaid, giving or paying to them Four-
pence every Week annually, and also One Chamber for each of them
to live in, to be continued for ever, and also that there should be

made One discreet, able,
and fit
Person, learned
in
Holy Writ,
a Man
famous
for
Innocence
and
Integrity
of
Life,
by
whom
the
Holy
Evangelists might
be
incorruptibly expounded,
and for the
Adminis-
tration
of
the Sacrament, according
to the
Word
of
God
and
apostolic
Observation, who should
be and be
called
the
Preacher
of the
Town
or Borough
of
Ludlow aforesaid, which Preacher should
be for
ever
supported
and
maintained

Issues

Profits

Lands

able

Assistant

Rector
