Whereas, by the Act(a) concerning the conditions of accession of Spain and Portugal and the adjustments to the Treaties establishing the European Coal and Steel Community, the European Economic Community and the European Atomic Energy Community, adaptations were made to the European Communities Council Directives concerning the mutual recognition of diplomas, certificates and other evidence of formal qualifications in medicine(b) and of practitioners of dentistry(c) to add to those Directives particulars of qualifications awarded in Spain and in Portugal and to make special provision relating to the practice of dentistry in Spain:
Now, therefore, Her Majesty, in exercise of the powers conferred upon Her by section 2(2) of the European Communities Act 1972(d), is pleased, by and with the advice of Her Privy Council, to order, and it is hereby ordered, as follows:—
Citation and commencement
1. This Order may be cited as the Medical and Dental Qualifications (EEC Recognition—Spain and Portugal) Order 1986 and shall come into operation on 15th January 1986.

Amendments relating to the medical profession
2.—(1) In article 6(6) of the Medical Qualifications (EEC Recognition) Order 1977 (a)—
(a) after "member State" there shall be inserted "other than Spain or Portugal"; and
(b) at the end there shall be added "and, in relation to Spain and to Portugal, means 1st January 1986".
(2) In the Medical Act 1983 (b)—
(a) in section 17(4)—
(i) after "member State" there shall be inserted "other than Spain or Portugal"; and
(ii) at the end there shall be added "and Spain and Portugal are to be regarded as having implemented it on 1st January...
