The Milk (Guaranteed Prices) Order, 1956

The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, the Secretary of State for Scotland and the Secretary of State for the Home Department (being the Secretaries of State concerned with agriculture in Scotland and Northern Ireland respectively) in exercise of the powers conferred upon them by section four of the Agriculture Act, 1947(a), and of all other powers them enabling in that behalf, after consultation with such bodies or persons as appear to each of them to represent the interests of producers of milk and with the approval of the Treasury, hereby jointly make the following Order:—

1. This Order may be cited as the Milk (Guaranteed Prices) Order, 1956, and shall come into operation on the twenty-second day of March, 1956.

2.—(1) In this Order except where the context otherwise requires, the following expressions have the meanings assigned to them, that is to say:—

"the appropriate Minister" means in relation to any part of the United Kingdom the Minister concerned with agriculture therein or the Ministers.

"Board" means respectively—

(a) The Milk Marketing Board set up under the Agricultural Marketing Act, 1931(b), and constituted under the Milk Marketing Scheme, 1933(c) as amended(d);

(b) The Scottish Milk Marketing Board set up under the said Act and constituted under the Scottish Milk Marketing Scheme, 1933(e) as amended(f);

(c) The Aberdeen and District Milk Marketing Board set up under the said Act and constituted under the Aberdeen and District Milk Marketing Scheme, 1933(g) as amended(h);

(d) The North of Scotland Milk Marketing Board set up under the said Act and constituted under the North of Scotland Milk Marketing Scheme, 1934(i) as amended(j);

(e) The Milk Marketing Board for Northern Ireland set up under the Agricultural Marketing Acts (Northern Ireland) 1933 and 1934, and constituted under the Milk Marketing Scheme (Northern Ireland) 1955(k).

"Manufacturing purposes" means such manufacturing purposes as the appropriate Minister may from time to time agree with the Board or, in default of agreement, as the appropriate Minister may prescribe.
