The Montserrat Letters Patent (Amendment) Order 1971

At the Court at Buckingham Palace, the 25th day of May 1971

The Queen's Most Excellent Majesty in Council

Her Majesty, by virtue and in exercise of Her powers under section 5 of the West Indies Act 1962(a), and of all other powers enabling Her in that behalf, is pleased, by and with the advice of Her Privy Council, to order, and it is hereby ordered, as follows:—

1.—(1) This Order may be cited as the Montserrat Letters Patent (Amendment) Order 1971 and shall be construed as one with the Montserrat Letters Patent 1959(b).

(2) This Order shall come into operation on such day as the Administrator, acting in his discretion, may, by proclamation published in the Montserrat Gazette, appoint, which day shall not be earlier than 2nd June 1971.

2. The Montserrat Letters Patent 1959 are amended as follows :—

(a) In article 12(1) the word " article" where it first occurs is deleted and the words " articles 13 and " are substituted therefor ;

(b) In article 13 a new paragraph (3A) is inserted after paragraph (3) as follows :—

"(3A) The Administrator, acting after consultation with the Chief Minister, may by directions in writing designate the member without portfolio to be a Minister or revoke any such designation, and during any period when that member is so designated the provisions of these Presents shall apply to him...
