The Northern Ireland Act 1998 (Amendment of Enactment) Order 2001

Coming into force in accordance with article 1

Whereas a draft of this Order has been approved by a resolution of each House of Parliament:

Now, therefore, Her Majesty, in exercise of the powers conferred upon Her by section 86(1) of the Northern Ireland Act 19981, is pleased, by and with the advice of Her Privy Council, to order, and it is hereby ordered, as follows:—

S-1 Citation and commencement

Citation and commencement

1. This Order may be cited as the Northern Ireland Act 1998 (Amendment of Enactment) Order 2001 and shall come into force on the day after the day on which it is made.

S-2 Amendment of the European Communities (Amendment) Act 1993

Amendment of the European Communities (Amendment) Act 1993

2. In section 6 of the European Communities (Amendment) Act 19932(membership of the Committee of the Regions) after “he is” there shall be inserted “a member of the Northern Ireland Assembly”.

This Order further amends section 6 of the European Communities (Amendment) Act 1993 by adding members of the Northern Ireland Assembly to the list of persons who may be proposed for membership of the Committee of the Regions constituted under Article 198a of the Treaty establishing the European Community (Cmnd 4864).
