The Northern Ireland Act 2000 (Restoration of Devolved Government) (No.2) Order 2001

Coming into force 23th September 2001
Whereas the Secretary of State took steps to initiate a review under the Validation, Implementation and Review section of the Belfast Agreement, as required by section 2(1) of the Northern Ireland Act 20001, and has taken into account the result of that review;
And whereas the Secretary of State considers it expedient for this Order to be made without a draft thereof having been approved by a resolution of each House of Parliament:
Now, therefore, the Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 2(2) of the Northern Ireland Act 2000, hereby makes the following Order:
1. This Order may be cited as the Northern Ireland Act 2000 (Restoration of Devolved Government) (No.2) Order 2001 and shall come into force on 23rd September 2001.
2. Section 1 of the Northern Ireland Act 2000 shall cease to have effect on 23rd September 2001.
3. The Northern Ireland Act 2000 (Suspension of Devolved Government) (No.2) Order 20012is hereby revoked.

This Order provides that section 1 of the Northern Ireland Act 2000 is to cease to have effect on 23rd September 2001. Section 1, which came into force again on 22nd September 2001 by virtue of the Northern Ireland Act 2000 (Suspension of Devolved Government) (No.2) Order 2001 (S.I. 2001/3230), provides for the suspension of devolved government in Northern Ireland. The effect of the Order is to restore devolved government in Northern Ireland on 23rd September 2001.
