The Secretary of State for Transport, the Secretary of State for Scotland and the Secretary of State for Wales, acting jointly in exercise of the powers conferred by sections 54 and 55(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1967(a), and now vested in them (b), and each acting separately as the appropriate Minister in exercise of the powers conferred on that Minister by section 23 of the said Act of 1967, and of all other enabling powers, and after consultation with representative organisations in accordance with section 107(2) of that Act, hereby make the following Regulations and give the following Directions:—
PART I—GENERAL
Citation, commencement and general effect
1. This Instrument may be cited as the 'Pelican' Pedestrian Crossings (Amendment) Regulations and General Directions 1979, shall come into operation on 1st June 1979, and shall have effect for amending the 'Pelican' Pedestrian Crossings Regulations and General Directions 1969(c).
PART II—AMENDMENTS TO REGULATIONS
2. This Part of this Instrument may be cited as the 'Pelican' Pedestrian Crossings (Amendment) Regulations 1979 and provides for amending the 'Pelican' Pedestrian Crossings Regulations 1969 (hereinafter referred to as 'the 1969 Regulations') as follows:—
(1) In sub-paragraphs (1)(b)(i), (1)(c) and 2(b) of paragraph 5 of Schedule 1 to the 1969 Regulations, for the words "the table in Part IV of this Schedule", in each place, substitute "either the table in Part IV or the table in Part V of this Schedule".

(2) After Part IV of Schedule 1 to the 1969 Regulations insert a new Part as follows:—
"PART V

(3) In paragraph 1(2) of Schedule 2 to the 1969 Regulations, for the words "as may be authorised in writing by the appropriate Minister in the case of any particular crossing" substitute "as may be...
