Notwithstanding the fact that when David Cameron was in office, he acknowledged that it was a tragedy that so many children were waiting to be placed, statistics show that 4,330 children had an adoption decision but were not yet placed at 31 March 2019, and 2,800 children had a placement order but were not yet placed at 31 March 2019. Despite these figures, it is astounding that the number of children waiting for adoption outnumber approved prospective adopters, and that adopters are turned down on grounds of sexual orientation or race.
