Brief Introduction of Chiba Prefecture
Chiba Prefecture has a population of 5.55 million people living within its
jurisdiction which consists of the peninsula lying just to the South East of
Tokyo. Possessing Narita International Airport and the Port of Chiba, one of
Japan's most active ports, Chiba acts as the entryway for Japan to the world.
Chiba is also home of Tokyo Disneyland and Nippon Convention Center
(Makuhari Messe, a large scale, multipurpose convention facility). As one of
the partners in the Trans-Tokyo Bay Road project, Chiba is industrializing and
is advancing to become one of the most active and growing prefectures in
Japan.
Activities of the Prefectural Archives
The Chiba Prefectural Archives were established by Chiba Prefectural
Government in 1989 to collect and keep official documents, administrative
documents and historical papers because they are considered the common
properties of the citizens of the prefecture. The main theme of this facility is to
help citizens to know their prefecture, Chiba. If a lot of citizens utilize the
facility and come to know about the climate, history and tradition of Chiba,
they will come to love and understand their home prefecture. The knowledge of
the history and tradition will be useful for citizens' life and local administration
in the present and will attract people's attention to the administration and
encourage them to participate in it.
In order to realize our ideas mentioned above, we will do the following.
Collection,
Preservation and Utilization of Official and Administrative
Documents
The official documents and administrative papers are the records of the
prefectural administration and will be collected, classified to be utilized by the
people now, and maintained for posterity.
- The documents which are to be preserved permanently are those with
cultural and historical value, and will be collected and kept.
- Printed matter published by the prefecture and other prefectural
documents are collected.
- We collect printed matters and non-commercial information materials
relating to Chiba Prefecture which are issued by central government, and
other local municipalities and Chiba prefectural extra-bodies.
