Representation of the People (Amendment) Act, 1957

(5 & 6 Eliz. 2) CHAPTER 43

An Act to amend the Representation of the People Act, 1949, by assimilating the limitation on election expenses for candidates at parliamentary elections in constituencies in Northern Ireland to the limitation on those expenses for candidates at such elections in constituencies in Great Britain.

Be it enacted by the Queen's most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this present Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—

S-1 Limitation of election expenses in Northern Ireland constituencies.

1 Limitation of election expenses in Northern Ireland constituencies.

1. The maximum amounts of election expenses for candidates at parliamentary elections in county and borough constituencies in Northern Ireland shall be the same as those respectively specified in section sixty-four of the Representation of the People Act, 1949, for candidates at parliamentary elections in county and borough constituencies in Great Britain and, accordingly, in the said section sixty-four—

a ) the words ‘in Great Britain’ in paragraphs (a ) and (b ) of subsection (2);
b ) paragraph (c ) of subsection (2); and
c ) subsection (5);

are hereby repealed.

2. This Act may be cited as theRepresentation of the People (Amendment) Act, 1957, and shall be included among the Acts which may be cited as the Representation of the People Acts.
