A local approach to combating racial hatred
An information pack to help local authorities and other organizations tackle
organised racial hatred and extremism has been produced by the Commission
for Racial Equality. The Defeating Organised Racial Hatred Information Pack was
developed following the Commission’s Safer Communities Initiative and aims to
provide information and advice on promoting good community relations, and to
help prevent and resolve disputes or tensions as early as possible. The information
pack contains guidance on the following: using criminal and civil law to deal with
organized racist activity; case studies of local authorities tackling the racist far
right; fact sheets and information dispelling myths on islamophobia, anti-
semitism, asylum and integration and gypsies and travellers. It includes guidance
on which parts of the law may be useful in combating the activities of racist group
and provides good practice examples and links to further sources of useful infor-
mation. The information packs can be downloaded from the website: http://www.
