Crime information and stories
Criminfo is a website that has been funded by Rethinking Crime and Punishment
and provides information about crime, what causes it and how it is dealt with. There
is basic information about crime and how it f‌its in with the media, politicians, and
business. Each month the site covers a different topic in depth, providing statistics
and covering the issues surrounding the particular topic. The site is aimed at
challenging stereotypes and myths and includes a section where the user can be
in the position of a judge and decide on the right sentence for an offender. True
stories of offenders who have been involved with the criminal justice system are
regularly updated, and fact sheets cover a variety of crime issues including youth
crime, women and crime, and specif‌ic types of crime, providing facts and statis-
tics and links to other specialist websites. The dictionary page covers a lot of key
criminal justice language. The website can be accessed at: www.crimeinfo.org.uk
Emerging practice for youth justice
The Youth Justice Board (YJB) has developed a Directory of Emerging Practice.
Emerging practice is practice that looks likely to the YJB to ultimately prove to be
effective, but which has yet to be evaluated. The Directory of Emerging Practice
contains details of programmes, templates, processes and documents from across
a range of practice themes. The themes include: education, training and employ-
ment; performance management; communication; parenting; restorative justice
and victims; offending behaviour programmes; assessment, planning and super-
vision; and risk management. These documents and templates are free to down-
load and are intended to provide a starting point for youth justice services across
the country that are seeking to improve and adapt their practice without creating
programmes or procedures from scratch. It also enables examples of practice to
be shared nationally. The Directory of Emerging Practice can be accessed via the
website: www.yjb.gov.uk/dep. Examples of good practice can also be emailed to
directory@yjb.gov.uk
