Support for perpetrators of domestic violence
Respect is a UK association for domestic violence perpetrator programmes and
associated support services. Respect’s key focus is on increasing the safety of those
experiencing domestic violence through promoting effective interventions with perpe-
trators. The Respect Phoneline 0845 122 8609 is a helpline offering information
and advice to people who are abusive towards their partners and want help to stop.
It provides a service that enables men to talk through their options, and advises
them on short-term strategies to manage the risk they pose to their partner/children
and help them access specialist, long-term help. The Respect Phoneline can be
contacted during the following days and times: Monday–Friday 10 a.m.–1 p.m.
and 2 p.m.–5 p.m. or by email at info@respectphoneline.org.uk
A booklet for gay and bi men who have been violent and/or abusive towards
their (ex) partners and are looking for help can be accessed via the website: http:
//www.respect.uk.net/phoneline.php
Respect offers services to both the statutory and voluntary sector: a for tnightly
email update with news from the sector, a quarterly newsletter, support and advice
around domestic violence perpetrator issues and associated women’s support serv-
ices, a professional website with a members’ only forum and resources area are
available. The Respect Phoneline is funded by the Home Of ce and is available
for England, Wales and Northern Ireland; it does not currently offer the service in
Scotland. Publicity material about the service can also be obtained in a number of
different languages.
Information on insurance for people
with unspent convictions
UNLOCK, The National Association for Reformed Offenders, has been developing
access to fair insurance for reformed offenders since 2000. UNLOCK provide a
list of insurers that have promised to treat reformed offenders with fairness and
respect. UNLOCK provide a lea et to highlight where you can go for insurance
if you have an unspent conviction. The lea et that accompanies the list of insurers
also provides advice about obtaining insurance and suggestions of questions to ask
