CRIMINAL PROCEDURP:, by A. M.

Ltd.
Price 15s. net.
This book is substantially areprint of Books IV
and
V of Harris &
Wilshere's Criminal Law,
18th
Edition, which we reviewed in our
last
number.
It
has been specially published, as before, to meet
the
require-
ments of students of criminal procedure,
and
is half
the
price of
the
larger work.
It
deals comprehensively with
the
process of,
and
proceedings in,
courts of summary jurisdiction,
quarter
sessions
and
assizes,
and
has a
chapter on
the
essentials of
the
law of evidence.
It
is a splendid book
only marred by
the
minor inaccuracies to which we have already drawn
attention,
and
a
not
wholly satisfactory index.
We have no hesitation in recommending this book to
the
practitioner
as well as
the
student. Of particular value are
the
sections dealing
with indictments
and
appeals. Two useful appendices give forms of
indictment,
and
details of punishments
and
orders
that
may
be made
in respect of children
and
young persons,
the
last afeature
that
appeared
in
the
body of
the
principal work.
HAYWARD &WRIGHT'S OPFICE OF MAGISTRATE.
8th
Edition.
By
JAMES
WHITESIDE.
Butterworth &Co. (Publishers)
Ltd.
Price 17s. 6d.
The four years
that
have elapsed since Mr. Whiteside produced
the
7th
Edition of this wholly admirable hand-book have seen an
un-
precedented flow of social legislation, much of which has affected
the
law relating to,
and
that
administered by Justices of
the
Peace. This
new edition has incorporated all
the
relevant
statutory
changes
and
has
given effect to
many
High Court decisions. The result is exactly
what
its
writer claims in his
preface-"
a law book . . . . for
the
use of lay
magistrates" presenting
"in
non-technical
and
portable form a complete
introduction to
the
law which
the
lay magistrate is sworn to administer".
It
is
the
ideal
text
book for
the
lay
magistrate-accurate,
informative
and
written in an easy style which adds pleasure to
the
reading. An
unusually comprehensive index completes an excellent book.
