PROFESSIONAL NEGLIGENCE, by J. P. Eddy, Q.C. Stevens and Sons
Ltd.

This
little book is a reproduction of the five Travers Memorial lectures
given at the City of London College earlier this year. After a short discussion
of the general principles of the law of negligence, the book deals with the
aspects of that law affecting individual professions, special attention being
paid to the liability of doctors and hospital authorities.
The
liability of
lawyers is also covered. As
Lord
Justice Denning points out in a foreword
Mr.
Eddy has presented the subject with a clarity
that
makes the book a
pleasure to read.

There
are not many occasions these days when magistrates' courts have
to be troubled with cases under the Small Tenements Recovery Act, 1838,
and
cases under the Rent Restriction Acts are fewer still. However, from
time to time, cases do arise and because of their rareness and unfamiliarity,
it is a great thing to be able to call on a book like this for an up-to-date
record of judicial decisions.
A few minutes study of how to use the book is necessary,
but
thereafter
it
is very easy to
turn
up the appropriate references.
The
fact that this is the
third edition shows
that
it fills a need in this branch of legal literature.
