One
quibble
I
do have
relates
to
the
physical
format
of
the
book.
The
text,
notes,
and
tables
in parts
i-mii
are
all
in
the
same
type
face
so
that
distinguishing
between
them
is
not
easy.
For
instance,
the
text
from
page
7
is
not
picked
up
again
until
page
17
because
of an
intervening
table.
Because
the
type
face
of
both
text
and
table
are
the
same,
finding
the
continuation
of
the
text
is
a
major
feat.
This
is
the most
extreme
example,
but
it
illustrates
a
persistent problem
for
the
reader,
as
there
are
several
tables
interspersed
with
the
text.
Mr
Hajnal
is
to
be
commended
for
compiling
this
guide
to
the
United
Nations
and
its
publications.
It
is
the
kind
of reference
book
which
will
be
useful
for
individuals
to
own
as
well
as
for
libraries.

These
books
have
two
things
in
common.
They
are
about
the
United
Nations
operation
in
the
Congo,
and
they
are
written
by
Indians.
Otherwise,
they
are
completely
different.
Dayal
is
writing
a
personal
account of
his
stewardship
as
the
Secretary-General's
personal
repre-
sentative.
Pradham
is
an
academic
and
his
assessment
is
an
adaptation
of
his
doctoral dissertation.
One
book
covers
in
detail
a
period
of
six
months.
The
other
reviews
the
entire
four
years
of
the
United Nations
operation.
There
is
therefore no
basis
for
comparison.
Dayal
was
making
history
and
his
account
is
excellent
source
material.
It
includes
quo-
tations from
letters
and
cables
sent
by
the
Secretary-General,
Dag
Hammarskj6ld,
but
unfortunately
none
from Dayal's
own
reports.
The
special
representative
took
up
his
post
