Her Majesty, in pursuance of section 2 of the Ministers of the Crown (Transfer of Functions) Act 1946(a), is pleased, by and with the advice of Her Privy Council, to order, and it is hereby ordered, as follows:—

Citation, interpretation and commencement

1.—(1) This Order may be cited as the Secretary of State for Commonwealth Affairs Order 1966.

(2) The Interpretation Act 1889(b) applies for the interpretation of this Order as it applies for the interpretation of an Act of Parliament.

(3) This Order shall come into operation on 1st August 1966.

Change of style and title of Secretary of State for Commonwealth Relations

2.—(1) The Secretary of State for Commonwealth Relations shall hereafter be known as the Secretary of State for Commonwealth Affairs.

(2) The new style and title of the Secretary of State shall be substituted for the former—

(a) in paragraph (1) of the Schedule to the Imperial War Museum Act 1920(c) as amended by the Imperial War Museum Act 1955(d) and in subsection (1) of section 2 of the Commonwealth Institute Act 1958(e); and

(b) in any other enactment, and in any charter, deed, scheme or other instrument whatsoever, in which reference is made to the Secretary of State for Commonwealth Relations.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This Note is not part of the Order.)

This Order, made under section 2 of the Ministers of the Crown (Transfer of Functions) Act 1946, changes the title of the Secretary of State for Commonwealth Relations to "Secretary of State for Commonwealth Affairs", and amends existing enactments and instruments accordingly.
