BELL ENURESIS APPARATUS
Following
the
article
about
the
use
of
this
apparatus.
in
our
May/June
issue,

have
had
enquiries
about
the
name
and
availability
of
the
apparatus
described.
It
is
the
Bell
Enuresis
apparatus,
produced
by Dr.
Davidson
of
the
Orphan
Homes
of
Scotland,
Bridge
of Weir,
Ren-

In
a
Home
Counties
Court,
recently,
four
tough-looking
men
were
charged
with
Larceny
of a Boller.
One
of
the
prosecution's
witnesses
was
acommisslo-
natre,
who
had
had
a
conversation
with
one of
the
accused
on
the
night
of
the
crime. He
informed
the
learned
magistrates
of
this
fact
and
was
then
asked
by
counsel
if
he
could
see
that
man
in
the
court
this
morning.
He looked
carefully
round
the
court
room
and
took
some
time
making
up
his
mind.
Then.
with
the
light
of
recognition
sprtnglng
suddenly
into
his
eyes,
he
pointed
to
the
probation
officer's box
and
exclaimed.
"
That's
'Im.'

REPORT
The
Howard
League.
meeting
to discuss
the
Maxwell
Report,
announced
in
our
last
issue,
has
been
postponed
untll
January.
fifty books
dealing
with
criminal
conduct,
penal
law.
penal
reform

preventive

and
he
is offering
these
for
sale
to
interested
institutions
or individuals.
He will be

SPOFFORTH
HALL
The
Eiizabeth
Fry
Memorial
Trust
has
now
issued
its
first
Report
giving a
survey
of
the
first
year
of
work
in
the
Recuperative
Centre
now
opened
for
neglectful
mothers,
at
Spofforth
Hall.
The
hall
is
now
accepting
cases
from
awide
area
(the
Warden
Is Miss
Julie
Haw,
Spofforth
Hall,
near
Harrogate,
Yorks.),
but
it is
depen-
dent
largely
on
the
Elizabeth
Fry
Memorial
Trust
for
funds
to
meet
its
general
costs.
Contributions
to
the
Trust
can
be
sent
to,
and
copies
of
its
Annual
Report
obtained
from,
the

at

DO YOU ANSWER
LETTERS?
At a
recent
meeting
of
the
Kent
Branch
the
speaker,
Dr.
Tredgold,
said
it
was
always
a
pleasure
to work
with
probation
officers
because
they
answered
all
letters
promptly.
Two
days
later
Ireceived
from
the
Secretary
of
another
Branch
complaints,
with
detail,
of
letters
written
and
ibnored.
of
reports
called
for for specific
court
days
and
not
received. ·Two
enquiries
sent
out
with
eleven
days'
notice
for
reply
were
not
answered
and
a
large
slice of
Sunday
had
to be
devoted
to
telephoning
to
try
to
get
Inforrnatlon for
the
next
morning's
court.
An
enquiry
launched
in
July
was
acknowledged
only
in
September
by
notification
that
the
enquiry
had
been
Sent
to
another
officer-the
officer
receiving
the
enquiry
sent
a
partial
report
in
October
and
promised
more.
but
up
to
the
following
June
nothing
had
been
heard.
These
complaints
reach
us
from
time
to
time,
but
there
is
nothing
we
can
do
about
it
except
to
remind
our
members
that
their
colleagues
do
need
the
utmost,
and
the
quickest
possible,
co-operation
if
their
work
is to be
successful.
This
is a service in
which
all
officers
are
mutually
dependent
for
the
proper
conduct
of
their
work.
SECRETARY'S
N.A.M.H. CASE WORK SEMINARS
The
National
Association
for
Mental
Health
completed
in
July
its
first
experimental
case
work
course,
and
it
proposes
to
repeat
the
course
during
the
coming
Winter.
Vacancies
for
two
seminars
during
the
Autumn
have
already
been
filled.
but
preparations
are
in
hand
for two
further
seminars
in
the
Winter,
opening
on
January
5th
and
7th, respectively.
The
sessions
are
from
6.30 to 8
p.m
..
and
the
fee for
the
course
of twelve weeks is
£6
