SEEDS

THE SEEDS (AMENDMENT) REGULATIONS, 1944, DATED AUGUST 1, 1944, MADE BY THE MINISTER OF AGRICULTURE AND FISHERIES UNDER THE SEEDS ACT, 1920 (10 & 11 GEO. 5. C. 54).

In exercise of the powers conferred on him by the provisions of the Seeds Act, 1920, and after consultation with representatives of the interests concerned, the Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries hereby makes the following regulations:—

1. The particulars to be stated in the case of a sale or exposure for sale of seed potatoes as required by Section 1 of the Seeds Act, 1920, are as follows:—

(a) the name and address of the seller; and

(b) a statement as to the class of the seed potatoes, that is, whether they are:—

Certified (Scotch),

Certified (Northern Ireland),

Certified (Eire),

Certified (English),

Certified (Welsh),

Certified (Isle of Man),

Uncertified (English once-grown),

Uncertified (Welsh once-grown),

Uncertified (Scotch),

Uncertified (English), or

Uncertified (Welsh); and

(c) in the case of seed potatoes of any of the following classes, namely, Certified (Scotch), Certified (Northern Ireland), Certified (Eire), Certified (English), Certified (Welsh), Certified (Isle of Man), a statement of the reference letters and number of the relative certificate; and

(d) a statement of the variety, size and dressing.

2. For the purpose of these Regulations—

(1)—(a) "Certified (Scotch)", "Certified (Northern Ireland)", "Certified (Eire)", "Certified (English)", "Certified (Welsh)", and "Certified (Isle of Man)" mean respectively seed potatoes obtained from crops grown in Scotland, Northern Ireland, Eire, England, Wales or the Isle of Man, as the case may be, which crops were certified under the scheme for the inspection of growing crops of potatoes authorised by the Secretary for State for Scotland, the Ministry of Agriculture for Northern Ireland, the Department of Agriculture for Eire, the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries (as to England and Wales) or the Board of Agriculture for the Isle of Man, as the case may be, which is for the time being in force, and the expression "certificate" means a certificate under the appropriate scheme;

(b) "Uncertified (English once-grown)" and "Uncertified (Welsh once-grown)" mean respectively seed potatoes obtained from crops grown in England or Wales as the case may be, which crops were not certified as aforesaid but were grown from seed potatoes of one or other of the classes defined in paragraph 2 (1) (a)...
